Bytham Parimetta and her filly foal Holloway Pareevash (by Teymour Taj) in 2013
Bytham Parimetta was the beginning of the Holloway Caspian Stud. I had originally intended to take her from her breeder Pat Bowles when she dispersed her herd in 2010, but circumstances meant that I couldn't at the time. Several months down the line, Pat got in touch to inform me that her new owner was no longer able to keep her - and that she needed a home with someone who intended to breed. I quickly accepted and began planning the beginning of my breeding empire shortly afterwards!
Parimetta is a larger Caspian, standing at around 12.1hh, she is a granddaughter of the mare Pari*, an Iranian import and one of the foundation horses of the Caspian breed. At the time of me acquiring her, Parimetta and her full sister were the only representatives of the Pari* female line remaining in the UK. Her sister sadly died soon after Parimetta came to me - hence there was a huge pressure on retaining her genetics for the future.
When she arrived, she was only very lightly handled and was therefore rather suspicious and tricky to catch (this can still be a problem to this day!). Leading was a baffling concept to her, and generally consisted of her bowling her handler over when she fancied a change of direction! After a week or so of walking her up and down the drive and around the woods to establish more civilised behaviour, it soon became apparent how much she enjoyed learning and doing activities. The decision was made to back her and within 4 weeks of arriving with me in Wiltshire, she was being ridden around the school and out on hacks, having taking to lunging and long-reining like an old pro. She thoroughly enjoyed loose jumping, displaying excellent scope, technique and carefulness and clearing over 1m with ease - I wish I had taken some photos at the time!
After spending the winter in a field, she turned her attentions to breeding and has sadly never returned to ridden work. She has produced 4 Caspian progeny and 2 part-breds. All of her offspring have inquisitive, friendly temperaments and are much more interested in human contact than their mother. Her two oldest daughters have bred foals themselves and her only son, the licensed stallion Holloway Pirouz has proved an excellent sire for me, before his sale to France in early 2024.
Due to her advancing age and some peculiar health complaints, Parimetta is now retired from breeding, but I am very proud of her numerous children and grandchildren now dotted around the UK and Europe!
